Ohio

Several days ago (oh boy...what day was that? Maybe July 24th? It was a Sunday, anyhow...), Jess and I went to Ohio.

You all remember that when Jess went to Mexico this year, she was helping homeschool the Goldfuss kids. Well, the three oldest kids (Mikey, Cristi-ha, spelled it right this time- and Carissa) were in Ohio going to camp and visiting friends and family. Sometime that week, as Jess and were driving to work, she mentioned it to me, and said how fun it would be if she could go see them, but she didn't thik it would be possible. Well, long story short, she google mapped it and discovered that it was only like 2 and a half hours away. That's why I found myself dragging me out of bed at shortly after 6 am that morning.

We had liftoff at 6:38 am. We crossed into Ohio at 8:06 (or thereabouts), and anticipation mounted. See, they didn't know we were coming. The people they were staying with (Dave and Maria) knew we were coming and had coordinated with us and Mr. and Mrs. Goldfuss and stuff, but we wanted to surprise the kids. After some slight confusion on actually finding the house (it involved pulling into their neighbor's driveway, not realizing that their house was directly behind us), we found the house and hopped out. I started videotaping as we walked up the walkway, and Jess rang the doorbell. Marie answered the door, and whispered that she'd get Carissa. And so Carissa came to the door and saw Jess and she was surprised and excited and it was fun.

We left about 20 minutes later to head to Sunday School and saw Mikey walking into church with his friends. He saw Jess, recognized us, but pretended to ignore us. He was walking past us talking to his friend, pretending to go right by us, but he caved and came over :) Cristi was already in her Sunday School room, but since it hadn't started yet, we just walked in and surprised her before heading to our own Sunday School class with Maria.

Okay...here's a really funny story. So we got to church, and through a series of unfortunate happenings managed to, ahem, well...um, lock our keys in the car. I thought it was pretty funny, but Jess thought it was really awkward. The policeman was really nice and had it opened in about 3 minutes. I now know how to open locked car doors the police fashion. Yeah, you just haven't lived till you've hung out in a diferent church's parking lot next to a locked car while several guys are poking and prying to no avail, call the police, and then have a police car pull up and assist. Life is adventuresome :)

After church, we went back to their house and had a brunch. Then we spent the afternoon hanging out. We helped Cristi and Carissa pack some, since they were going to camp and friends the next day (today) and needed to pack for it. Church was at 6, and it was especially neat since they had 3 missionary teams from heir church give a presentation on what they'd done. SOme people had gone to Mexico to help the Goldfusses, and it was especially neat to hear that presentation and see their pictures. After the evening service, we went back and had pizza for supper. And, there was another surprise-- another Goldfuss former teacher happened to be in the area, and she swung by with her husband and baby and they were there for a little while.

We left shortly after 10 pm, and yes, we stayed awake till we got home :P I think I almost fell asleep with my eyes open, but thankfully Jess was driving. We stopped in Erie to get gas (it was about 30 cents cheaper) and something to drink. Tim Hortons was the only one we saw that was open, so we went in. Carl the guy behind the counter told us to have a safe trip, which was nice of him. And we got home at like 1:37 am.

Here are PICTURES!

This is us driving. No, I was not distracting her...I never do.

Yay Ohio!
