They watched, and enjoyed tasting it before it went in. Hosanna really looks like she's shoveling it in there, doesn't she?!
Above is pouring it into the canister to be frozen. Below is our ancient ice cream maker, with the bucket of snow, box of salt... and Joshua's knees and someone's foot :)
And voila! It was as good as it looks!
How many of my readers have made ice cream? What is your favorite flavor (homemade or not)?

The first time my family made ice cream, I was in 6th grade, and my dad was craving the "good stuff" he remembered from his childhood. That first batch was peach, which was good except for the little cold pieces of real peaches that froze my teeth, but we made several different kinds after that. My childhood favorite was probably peanut butter.
About 10 years into my marriage, my hubby got a craving for "the good stuff" he remembered making with his dad. Ironically, his favorite memories include making peach ice cream! :) Since we didn't have any old-fashioned crank kinds of ice cream makers, we bought an ice cream maker attachment for our mixer and started pouring in the salt and ice cubes. I think our family favorite was probably Oreo cookies-n-cream, although mint-chocolate-chip was another crowd pleaser, and anything homemade was a special treat.
Since the mixer died, we've just been making snow cream - adding cream and sugar and vanilla to clean snow - but we have recently inherited my parents' old hand-crank machine. I'm hoping we'll fire it up some hot day this summer!
We definitely love homemade ice cream! I think Cookies'n'Cream is my favorite, although homemade peanut butter is really good. And I think my mom will agree that plain vanilla is great fun :)
Oooh...homemade cookies and cream sounds really good! We have done peach before, and I remember the frozen little chunks of peach :)
