A long, long time ago (like July 24) I ordered some material and a pattern from Modest Swimwear, in hopes of making myself a swimsuit to wear on our upcoming trip to Florida. Well, today it's finally done! My mom and I both worked on it, and I think it came out fairly well. The lycra was somewhat hard to work with, because it's slippery, but by putting the pins fairly close tgether and making a second row of pins, I was finally able to keep the material close enough together to make semi-straight seams.
The pattern itself was very simple and easy to follow. For example, to make the skirt, you cut out the pieces, sew the side seams, and attach it to the bodice. You don't have to hem it because lycra doesn't fray. The bodice has an inner lining, which makes it thicker. And, there are leggings/shorts to wear underneath. I cut mine off so that they are just above the hem of the skirt part.
I realize that going swimming is probably the last thing on your mind (unles you live in Hawaii or something), but if you don't have a good swimsuit for next year, I would definitely encourage you to check the website out.

Erika, this is so cool! I can't belive you made that! [Not because I doubt your sewing ability, but it is just so pretty-- and modest!!]
The first time I tried to sew something, I ended up sewing the material to the table cloth. I knew from then on, that I should just give up sewing altogether! :)
Have fun in Flordia! Can't wait you see your pictures!! Where will you be in Fl??
Thank you, Madison! As a matter of fact, I got the link to the website from your Modesty: A Matter of the Heart blog, which is sorely neglected these days!!
Emily, I'm with you...if we had a tablecloth underneath our sewing machine, I am sure I would have sewn te two together multiple times!
Love the pattern, looks very tropical! Good thing the pool is heated because Florida has it's winter next week!
It's cute while at the same time modest! How much did it cost to get the fabric? Sooooo cute Erika!!
It was around 70 dollars, I think. Look at the website if you want to know for sure.
Ok, we'll have to look into the swimsuits more closly! Thankyou for putting a picture!
